Valentine’s Day Waffle Board

A Fun, Gluten-Free Breakfast Board the Whole Family Will Love

If there is one thing I love about holidays, it is creating simple traditions that feel special without being complicated. For that reason, this Valentine’s Day Waffle Board has quickly become one of our favorite ways to celebrate.

It is festive. It is customizable. And best of all, it brings everyone to the table to build their own perfect waffle.

Whether you are celebrating with your kids before school, hosting a Galentine’s brunch, or surprising your spouse with breakfast, this gluten-free waffle board is an easy way to make the morning feel extra special.

Why You’ll Love This Valentine’s Day Waffle Board

First of all, it is incredibly versatile. Additionally, it works for any age group and any appetite.

  • 100% customizable
  • Naturally gluten-free when using gluten-free waffles
  • Kid-friendly and interactive
  • Perfect for Valentine’s Day or any special breakfast
  • Easy to prep ahead

Because you can truly add anything your family loves, this board adapts to your preferences. For example, we keep ours simple with heart-shaped waffles, yogurt, fresh fruit, and fun toppings. However, you can easily make it more indulgent or more protein-packed depending on your goals.

What We Add to Our Waffle Board

To start, choose your base.

Main Base

  • Gluten-free heart-shaped waffles

Next, gather your toppings and place them in small serving bowls.

Toppings (in serving bowls)

  • Yogurt
  • Chocolate chips
  • Sprinkles
  • Peanut butter
  • Maple syrup

Finally, add fresh fruit for color and balance.

Fresh Fruit

  • Strawberries cut into heart shapes
  • Blueberries

Of course, you can also include:

  • Whipped cream
  • Nutella
  • Almond butter
  • Bananas
  • Raspberries
  • Coconut flakes
  • Mini marshmallows
  • Crushed gluten-free cookies

Ultimately, the options are endless.

How to Make Heart-Shaped Waffles

You can use your favorite gluten-free waffle recipe or a gluten-free waffle mix. Simply prepare the batter as directed and cook in a heart-shaped waffle maker.

If you do not have a heart waffle maker, do not worry. Instead, you can:

  • Use a cookie cutter to cut heart shapes from square waffles
  • Make mini waffles and leave them whole
  • Even use gluten-free pancakes cut into hearts

In other words, it does not have to be perfect. It just has to be fun.

How to Assemble Your Valentine’s Day Waffle Board

Now comes the creative part.

Step 1: Start with the Waffles

First, arrange your heart-shaped waffles on the board. This creates the foundation and immediately sets the tone.

Step 2: Add the Serving Dishes

Next, place yogurt, chocolate chips, sprinkles, peanut butter, and syrup into small serving bowls. Then, arrange them evenly around the board to create balance.

Step 3: Fill in with Fruit

After that, fill any open space with strawberries and blueberries. Scatter them throughout the board so it looks colorful and abundant.

Step 4: Add Extra Waffles

Finally, if there are still empty spaces, tuck in additional waffles wherever they fit.

Overall, the goal is abundance. You want the board to look full, inviting, and ready to be enjoyed.

How to Cut Strawberries into Hearts

For an extra festive touch, turn your strawberries into hearts.

  1. First, remove the green tops.
  2. Then, slice the strawberry in half lengthwise.
  3. Next, cut a small V-shape at the top to create the heart indentation.

Although it only takes seconds, it makes the board feel thoughtful and intentional.

Let Everyone Build Their Own Waffle

Now for the best part.

Once everything is arranged, set the board in the center of the table. Then, let everyone create their favorite combination.

Some will go chocolate-heavy. Meanwhile, others will pile on fruit and yogurt. Still others may mix sweet and salty with peanut butter and syrup.

There is no wrong way to build a waffle. In fact, that freedom is what makes this breakfast so special.

Make It Healthier or More Indulgent

The beauty of this board is that it works for any lifestyle.

For example, if you want a higher-protein version:

  • Use high-protein yogurt
  • Add extra nut butter
  • Serve with eggs or sausage on the side

On the other hand, if you prefer a more dessert-style brunch:

  • Add whipped cream
  • Include chocolate sauce
  • Use vanilla or sweetened yogurt

Either way, it is completely adaptable.

Make It Ahead

If mornings feel rushed, you can prep most of this in advance.

For instance:

  • Cook waffles the night before and reheat
  • Wash and cut fruit ahead of time
  • Portion toppings into bowls in advance

Then, in the morning, simply assemble the board and serve.

Why We Love Breakfast Boards

As a gluten-free family, we are always mindful about making meals that feel inclusive and fun. Therefore, boards are one of our favorite ways to celebrate.

They encourage creativity.
They spark conversation.
And most importantly, they slow everyone down for a moment.

After all, that is what holidays are really about.

Liz Satkowski Gluten Free Mom Colorado

I am married to the most amazing man, Tommy. I am the mother of three beautiful children Landon, Finn, and Daisy. For years I have been helping friends, family and others navigate the life of gluten-free living. I grew up in a gluten-free house, my mom and both brothers were diagnosed with Celiac Disease when I was young. My mom did an amazing job making everything from scratch in a gluten free kitchen. When I had my first child Landon my world was changed. He was born at 24 weeks because I have a short cervix. The doctor told us that he had a slim chance of survival and that his life would be plagued with severe complications. He survived and has minimal complications due to his prematurity, but when Landon was two he started getting rashes all over his body and he would constantly be sick. My mom advised me to get Landon tested for Celiac Disease. This was the beginning of my true GF journey. Shortly after he was diagnosed, I decided to go off gluten as well. Although I do not have Celiac Disease, I have found that I feel 100% better eliminating gluten from my diet. Recently Finn was having some issues with his legs and knees hurting. The doctor told me to take Finn off gluten to see if it was causing the inflammation and pain. Sure enough once we changed his diet the symptoms went away. We have Celiac Disease and gluten intolerance on both sides of the family. My sister-in-law and niece were recently diagnosed and my Grandma recently took gluten out of her diet due to an autoimmune disease. We are in a fortunate position that both of our families understand the purpose of living a gluten-free lifestyle. I am on a mission to help people create amazing gluten-free recipes and to see that this diagnosis is not a curse, but can actually be delicious.
